Lake Jr. believes he was born to create.
For him, painting is not simply a profession. It is an instinct. Like a fish needs water to survive, Lake Jr. needs to create. The smell of paint, the touch of canvas, and the process of building beauty are part of who he is.
After pursuing music, Lake Jr. returned to the canvas in 2014. What he found was not something new. It was something that had always been there.
In the studio, Lake Jr. found a place where he could express himself without limits. Every emotion could become a mark. Every thought could become texture. Every canvas became a conversation between the artist and the person being painted.
Inspired by the intricate craftsmanship of Persian rugs and the countless knots required to create them, Lake Jr. wanted to develop a visual language that people could recognize immediately. The deliberate X’s and circles became that language. His goal was to create a signature so distinctive that even a five year old could look at a painting and know it was a Lake Jr. piece.
His subjects are icons whose achievements inspire people. But Lake Jr. looks beyond the lights, fame, and accomplishments. He wants people to see the work behind the success. The sacrifice. The struggle. The sweat, blood, and tears. The discipline. The long hours spent working when nobody is watching.
That idea became DNA IN OIL.
To Lake Jr., DNA represents a person’s fingerprint. It represents identity. It is a unique code captured in oil and brought to life on canvas. Each portrait becomes more than an image of a recognizable face. It becomes a visual record of who that person is and what they left behind.
Lake Jr. wants his work to create a reaction:
“Wow. This motivates me to become great at what I was meant to do.”
Because in the end, Lake Jr. does not believe he became an artist.
He believes he was born one.
The paintbrush has always felt like another arm, an extension of himself, connected directly to the canvas.
